What does our department do?
The Global Technology & Operations Division is where all aspects of Turner’s linear and digital technologies and resources reside.
We are Re-Imagining TV, and the result will be the ability to adapt to new business models—whether it’s direct-to-consumer, ad-supported, or transactional—we’ll have the infrastructure to support each. Most importantly, we’ll strengthen our ability to enable new consumer capabilities. Personalized networks, video-on-demand playlists (similar to what Spotify does for music) and content discovery/playback with social media are a few of the capabilities we have or are building. – Jeremy Legg, Turner’s Chief Technology Officer.
Video Platform Services:
VPS delivers architectural, development, engineering, and operational solutions in the areas of video workflow automation and video encoding for Turner's OTT live streaming and non-subscription VOD short form content. We enable delivery of ALL of Turner’s media and site content through engineering solutions and support. We are a diverse, talented group of DevOps engineers who enjoy learning and addressing challenging problems.
What will you be doing?
You’ll be helping to improve our internal continuous integration / continuous deployment (CI/CD) processes and monitoring through automation. In this role, you’ll touch a number of modern applications and services, including docker, kubernetes, rancher, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and so many more. You’ll work with other Senior DevOps engineers to build scalable, resilient applications.
What do we require from you?
Sorry, but we’re only interested in interns pursuing a career in software engineer or development. If you don’t eat, sleep, and breath technology, this internship is probably not for you. We do however welcome those pursuing Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, etc. to apply.
We need you to know at least one programming language, but two languages are better! We’re polyglot, so it doesn’t matter which ones you know (python, nodejs, java, C++, ruby, golang, etc.).This is a learning environment. We want you to be curious and try languages that you don’t know, dig into technologies that are unfamiliar, understand how they break, and how we can make them more resilient.
You should be ready to hit the ground running from day one. We like engineers who are eager to help and take initiative. We want you to take a simple assignment and make it award-worthy!
Come with ideas. Think outside of the box and approach problems with an open mind. There are no dumb questions and your fresh perspective might be just what we need to solve a problem.
We love positive attitudes! We believe positive attitudes spawn curiosity, motivation, and creativity. We also like to have fun. We want people who are culturally a great fit for the team. Be your authentic self every day and bring more awesomeness to our team.
What’s so great about this internship?
- An opportunity to work with a great team that is passionate about the same thing you are!
- Networking opportunities to meet people that you’d like to know!
- A speaker series that introduces you to cool executives and what they do for the best brands!
Internship dates are January 22, 2019 – May 10, 2019. All interns are expected to work 20 hours per week and paid competitively based on location (relocation is not provided).
